Savage Burger at Oh My Burger L.A. | The Burger Crawl – Ep. 21

In the 21 episodes I have done so far, no burger has excited me more than the Savage Burger at Oh My Burger L.A. After I completed filming, I immediately called a friend in a moment of joy, happiness, and overwhelming amazement.

Oh My Burger is an African American-owned restaurant in Gardena, CA. Owner and chef Brandyn Powell started the restaurant with his fiancee Danielle about 4 years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting them, and attempting their 6LB OMB Burger Challenge which I failed. At the time the place was very new, and chef Brandyn was very inexperienced. Coming back some years later, and trying them again has completely changed my very outspoken opinion. The Savage Burger is delicious, flavorful, and quite mindblowing. There is a voicemail to prove it if you want to hear it.

To my subscribers, and new viewers if there is a burger place that I insist you must try in Los Angeles, it is Oh My Burger. To chef Brandyn and Danielle, I extremely proud of what you all have done, and from where you all have come. Keep up the good work, and I honestly believe you can attain the #2 spot in my burger world. Hodad’s is #1 and will be until further notice.

Roman Burger at Morels | The Burger Crawl – Ep. 20

Fine dining does not really say hamburgers when you hear it, but Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro would like to change that. Annually they have a BurgerFest; one year was 2 burgers, another 3, and this year is 5 mouthwatering burgers on a month-long exclusive menu. I tried them all, and the Roman was my favorite.

Now, I know what you are saying, “Cue why in the f*ck would I pay $18 for a burger? Where is the simple $6 burger or less? Don’t you preach against hipster bullsh*t all the time, you’re a hypocrite!” Okay maybe you’re not saying that and it is just my guilt, whatever. Morels French Steakhouse & Bistro at The Grove is upping their ante with delicious burgers that are good at the price point. Their patty is 8 ounces; I prefer mine medium rare or rare, and that makes all the difference. When ordering an expensive burger there are certain things you expect, like mindblowing goodness. Morels delivers, that is for sure. Happy Burger Month!

Breakfast Burrito Burger at Slater’s 50/50 | The Burger Crawl – Ep. 19

California is filled with mom & pop burger joints named Tommy’s, Tom’s, Tom’s Jr, Tam’s or some variation thereof. They all serve Breakfast Burritos, but only Slater’s 50/50 decided to make a burger out of one!

The Breakfast Burrito Burger is Slater’s 50/50’s May 2015 Burger of the month. The flavors combine to create a taste and profile that reminds you of a traditional style breakfast burrito that you would get from one of South Central Los Angeles’ many Tom’s, Tam’s, Golden Ox, or Fabulous Burger locations. The burger overall is good, and true the the inspiration of local South L.A.

As always guys, here is Slater’s 50/50’s Burger of The Month. This month is the BBQ Brisket Burger which is pretty good. The BBQ Sauce is a little light in flavor, but it pokes it heads out towards the end like a groundhog looking for a shadow. BBQ season has begun, gentlemen, at least in California! HOOOYAH!

Public School is a multi-restaurant chain with an educational theme. I like to call it the place where teachers can go, and be rowdy like their students when they get off work. I had the pleasure of attending their media preview, and then coming in to check out the lamb burger, it is truly a great happy hour place, and the food is spectacular.

If you can make food in the hood of Los Angeles without being shot, you may very well have a quality product. This stands true at A&T Burger in South Central. The burger place has a 30 year history in the community, and the locals love it. It is a favorite to high school student at Locke High School, and the residence of the area. Simple and delicious.

I think I expected more of a fried shrimp but strong shrimp-taste ‘po boy sandwich. What I got was a lot of breading, and a hint of hot sauce, well other than when the burger choked me.
