Cue's Bacon Weekend 2015 consisted of Bacon & Barrels' food festival in Solvang, CA on Saturday; OC Fair's Media Preview on Sunday; then this overloaded bacon burger filming at Slater's 50/50 yesterday (Monday). It is paired with Ironfire Synner Extra IPA. Every July Slater's 50/50 releases the 'Merica Burger. This year's 'Merica Burger differs a bit from the previous years. I believe the fried Mac N Cheese was one of the major differences. Last year had a fried egg, and leaf lettuce whereas this year's has fried Mac N' Cheese and field greens. Thrillist is where I learned of the Boner Burger at Animal after a friend of mine showed me the article. I could not help but be overcome with the same ecitement as Jeff, so I knew I had to try the only burger available at Animal, which is off-menu, and apparently not a well-kept secret. The burger packs a ton of flavor, and is very good. It is smaller than what I like but that does not take away from it's deliciousness. Owner and chef Brandyn Powell started the restaurant with his fiancee Danielle about 4 years ago. I had the pleasure of meeting them, and attempting their 6LB OMB Burger Challenge which I failed. At the time the place was very new, and chef Brandyn was very inexperienced. Coming back some years later, and trying them again has completely changed my very outspoken opinion. The Savage Burger is delicious, flavorful, and quite mindblowing. There is a voicemail to prove it if you want to hear it.
