We’d been trying to set this up for about a year and a half, since I met A3k through Wreckless Eating. Grill ‘Em All in Alhambra started as a food truck and was on the food truck competition shows before it opened the restaurant. The Behemoth is a burger with two grilled cheese sandwiches on Texas toast for buns. A3k got the Samoa Joe, a Hawaiian-style burger with pineapple, bacon and barbecue sauce.
My first bite was just grilled cheese and pickle, and it was amazing. Once I got to the meat, everything came together. It’s two meals in one. I usually dread the bun because I don’t like bread, but here the bun is a grilled cheese sandwich, so no complaints. The bacon is thick cut, meaty instead of crispy and hard.
The restaurant is heavy metal themed. Grill ‘Em All is a play on Metallica’s Kill ‘Em All, the logo is in Metallica’s font, and the burgers are named for bands, songs and wrestlers, like the Cowboy From Hell with jalapeño poppers. I don’t know much about heavy metal, but this makes me want to listen to some.
My burger was about twelve dollars and the buffalo chicken fries about seven, with chicken all over them. Worth every Instagram photo you’ve seen. I was full.
