I bought a sliced brisket sandwich and a brisket burrito at the same time at the Buc-ee’s in Smiths Grove, Kentucky, so I could try the brisket two ways. The flavor was good both times. The temperature was not.
The sandwich
The brisket flavor was the part I enjoyed. It came close to being a sandwich I would order again, but it was not served hot, and that kept it from getting there.
The burrito
I knew there would be beans in the burrito. I did not expect them to take over. The flavor was not bad, but the beans dominated and the brisket never got the presence I wanted. It was also served cold, the same problem I had with the sandwich.
The real issue is temperature
I am not a Buc-ee’s worshipper. The brisket is good, but it is cold, and it is always cold, and there are no microwaves there to fix it. I have never gotten Buc-ee’s brisket hot right after it was cooked. Maybe that is possible and I need to try it, but when you walk in and grab a sandwich out of the warmer or from under the heat lamps, it is never hot.
I want hot food, and Buc-ee’s does not deliver it. That is partly just how the setup works, so it is probably not entirely their fault, but it is still my preference, and it is why I get mad at Buc-ee’s.
