They say the road is lonely, sometimes even scary. This was the day I hit a wall, literally.
I’d checked out of my hotel in Columbia, South Carolina, and noticed a $10 internet charge I shouldn’t have had. Instead of walking across the parking lot to fix it, I drove the RV. The canopy clearance was about nine and a half feet, and I took out the radiator. I called my dispatcher, then claims, and spent the day stressed and waiting, sure I was about to get fired. Around 4, they called back: tarp it so nothing flies into traffic, and deliver it tomorrow.
Dinner was delivery from Mo Bay’s Legacy Caribbean Bar & Grill, and it was redemption: oxtails with plantains over rice and peas, a side of curry goat, a Jamaican beef patty and a Grace Tropical Rhythms sorrel ginger. The oxtail was perfectly seasoned. The curry goat was intense but well spiced and super tender. The patty was good, but subtler than the real spice I’m used to. It came lukewarm, and I’d want it hot, but it’s comfort food at its best, and it’s worth the stop.
This show isn’t really about reviewing food. It’s about the road. This was the first one, and I’ll get better.
