¡Ay, MUY caliente y picante, guey!
June 2013’s Burger of The Month at Slater’s 50/50 was the 50/50 Fire Burger. They weren’t joshing when they said “Fire Burger.” From start-to-finish my taste-buds were inflamed with a searing goodness that charred its mark on my tongue [and the roof of my mouth]. Going to Slater’s 50/50 is a great adventure because they have their Burger of The Month and it is a true pleasure; or there is pleasure to be found in pain; that being the case with this month’s hot-burger taste-palette excursion.
I would have missed the 50/50 Fire Burger had it not been for a week long food binge with a female friend of mine. We had eaten together every day that week and going to Slater’s was the culmination of our hanging out. We decided to make it a trio and invite a mutual friend. We pick up our friend and headed north on the CA- 110 towards Pasadena until we arrive at the Slater’s 50/50 Pasadena. The girls had not been there before, but of course I am a Slater’s regular. Once we are seated, I pick up the advertisement—in traditional fashion—with June’s burger and without hesitation, “I’m getting this!” I exclaimed to the baffled and confused young women who were not completely sure what they were witnessing. I suppose eating with me and seeing such excitement for food can be off-putting. The girls follow my lead, and we, three, order the 50/50 Fire Burger along with the Cheez-it Bacon Jalapeno Mac-N-Cheese, to share; and our respective drinks. I had the Guinness Mint Chocolate Chip shake.
Unlike the girls, my burger was special, in true Fat Manster style, I order the full pound patty; unbeknownst to me, this would’ve been the time to have ordered a standard 1/3lb of beef-bacon. After sharing the appetizer and chatting amongst ourselves, our burgers arrive…we dive in and immediately a 5 alarm fire spreads throughout our mouths. The heat hits me later than the girls; sort of like a practical joker creeping up on you in the hallway at school, as you stand gazing inattentively into your locker.
The 50/50 Fire Burger, a 5 alarm fire blazing at Slater’s 50/50; hopefully they’ll have it again; and you too can experience a month of pleasurable-burning sensation.
Cheez-its Jalepeno Bacon Mac-N-Cheese, this is heaven in a dish, mmm mmm mmmm. Sadly, it did not give warning ahead of time about the fiery inferno my mouth would experience once the 50/50 Fire Burger was bitten into.
Burger of The Month: June 2013Forget the wedding Saturday in the month of June, Slater’s 50/50 set a culinary fire with their 50/50 Fire Burger. The burger features their 50-50 patty blend of ground beef and ground bacon, signature fire mix, topped with melted Chipotle Gouda, habanero bacon bits, guacamole, a fried egg and the house-made jalapeno jam sour cream.
What more really needs to be said about this burger? Take a moment to just bask in its glory, then humble yourself before it. If you want to eat this burger, tough guy; certainly be humble because she’s not f*cking around. SHE’S HOT, Boy I tell you.
