The December burger is massive. It’s Slater’s signature Brandt patty blended with their Italian sausage, mozzarella, red peppers and jalapeños on ciabatta, with a side of au jus. I got the two-thirds.
The flavors are intense, on purpose. The sausage comes through the meat over the beef, and the onion, jalapeño and red pepper light your mouth on fire. It eats like a Chicago Philly cheesesteak crossed with Italian sausage and peppers. The au jus tames the heat a little. It’s a mess. I ended up with a plate full of onions and peppers.
When I had the Pizza Burger last February, I thought that was my favorite Italian burger to date. This one is right up there with it. The beer pairing from Great Divide Brewing cools your tongue down from the spice, and I think it was a perfect match.
