Reverse Cheat Day is the show where I pretend to be healthy. This episode, Janelle Renee Pearson brought me juice. We met years ago on FYI’s Say It to My Face, when I was a brand-new food blogger. During the pandemic, after losing her nanny job, she started a juice company, Raje Juice.
We tasted five. Morning Glory, grapefruit and mint, was really refreshing and not as bitter as regular grapefruit juice, because she cuts the rind off; the mint lingers at the back of the throat. The Lean Green, kale, celery, cucumber, apple, ginger and lemon, starts out cucumbery, and then the ginger kicks you like a donkey. The Goddess, carrot, golden beet, pineapple, orange and turmeric, tasted more like vegetables to me, with the beet first. The green apple juice was candy in a bottle, a Jolly Rancher. The backyard orange juice was exactly like biting into an orange.
Then we did what we’d do on Wreckless Eating and mixed all of them together. It actually worked: mint, ginger and turmeric up front, and the sweetness of the apple and orange behind them.
I got to be healthy for a day. Back to hamburgers next week.
