Salut to Balut! – The Coolinary Trends Show [Videos]

Duck Tales, Ahhhh wooo hooo!

Being a food blogger is a lifestyle.  It is comprised of being open-minded, and willing to try things normal people would not.  Fear, and reservation have no place in this world of culinary adventure.  Tonight I continued on developing my lifestyle as a food blogger by defeating The Balut Challenge hosted by Chef Bev Lazo of The Coolinary Trends Show.  For those who are not aware of the southeast Asia street food tradition, it is a duck egg eaten at 14 or 21 days gestation, or simply put, a duck embryo, and some boiled egg yolk.

I prepare for this all day; I was worried that I would not be able to complete the task, or I would throw up.  I didn’t.  To my surprise, it was actually easier than I expected.  Truly, balut taste about like a regular chicken egg.  There are differences, the taste is intense.  It’s like tasting the center of a hard boiled chicken egg, and adding a slimey unborn duck, and unborn baby duck juice to it.  All-in-all, it’s pretty good.  I certainly would have it again, without caution; something that cannot be said about the pig brain I ate, last week.
